Microsoft Windows Vista

If I go to

http://www.srh.noaa.gov/ridge/radar.php?rid=tbw&product=N0R&overlay=11101111&loop=no

and select Short Range Images Reflectivity: Composite Loop

I get a yellow bar across the top of the page with the message: "To help protect your security, Internet Explorer stopped this site from installing an AxtiveX control on your computer. Click here for options...

If I pick"Install ActiveX control"

I get the User Account Control dialog "A program needs your permission . . ." "Internet Explorer Add-on Installer"

When I select "Continue" I get the dialog "Internet Explorer Installer Broker - Security Warning" "Windows has blocked this software because it can't verify the publisher."

I used msconfig to turn to disable UAP, but then I get a similar dialog form"Internet Security - Security Warning" and still can't install the control.

What can I do get this control to install - or is this a Vista bug?

Thanks.

activex control installing ie

I can not get it to install either on the latest build (5472). I would bug it. Then you should send an e-mail off to NOAA asking them to look in to the issue.

The site worked fine for me, as I already have Java installed, which is what drives the composite loop there ;)

http://java.sun.com/javase/downloads/ea.jsp Java 6 Beta 2 for Vista.

Yes - you're right. Thanks for the SUN Beta-for-Vista link.

After posting, I said the heck with IE and installed Firefox.Java was an easy install from there.

btw - are you running Vista 64bit? I've been running XP Pro x64 onone of my PCs for some time and have been very happy with it.Unfortunately, my test PC is not 64bit.

I'm currently dual booting XP Pro x64 and Vista x64 ;) XP x64 is incredibly stable. I prefer it over the old 32bit XP :)

I have gotten so used to XP Pro x64's stability that I almost hate to switch to Vista x64. Almost. :)
